Development Log: Progress Update on The Last Apparition

Hey everybody! It's been a busy week full of challenges, triumphs, and a bit of frustration. But, progress is being made quickly.

What I've Accomplished:

Map Implementation & Groundwork

  • The map is now in place with a placeholder map for now, until I get around to finalizing the design.

  • This lays the foundation for exploring locations and gives us something to work with in the future.

Cellphone System Implementation

  • The groundwork for the cellphone feature is done, including some placeholder assets to simulate the experience.

  • Players will eventually use it to interact with various parts of the game, so it's exciting to see it come together. (Dating app, messaging system, background, bank, etc.)

Scene Writing

  • Various short scenes have been written into Python and are now functional.

  • The following key scenes are now written into python fully:

    • Annie Intro Scene

    • Annie Shower Scene

    • Talia/Therapist Session 1

    • Skye Intro Scene

Render Progress:

  • Annie Shower Scene: 50% complete

  • Talia/Therapist Session 1: 75% complete

  • Skye Intro Scene: 10% complete

Hurdles and Challenges

This past week has been full of hurdles (some expected, others completely random?), and a lot of them have required me to learn on the fly.

Python & Ren'Py Oddities

Being pretty new to Python and Ren'Py, I encountered some unexpected behavior that slowed me down. As a bit of a perfectionist, I spent hours troubleshooting small issues (like sound not playing correctly) until everything was just right. It's a learning process, but I'm determined to get it perfect.

Character Model Issues

One of the major setbacks was related to the character model I originally planned to use for Annie. There was an issue with how translucency was being applied to the skin, which caused problems when adding attachments. I tried everything to work around this issue, but after countless hours of struggle, I decided to switch to a new model. A costly decision at $15, but I’m hoping it will pay off. RIP $15, but here’s to learning and improving.

The Cost of AVN Development

I didn’t realize just how expensive creating an AVN with DAZ would be, but the process has been a real eye-opener. Models and assets all add up quickly. Despite the costs, it's been incredibly rewarding, and I'm excited to continue this journey.

I’m working hard to get Chapter 1 finished up and into everyone’s hands, and I’m feeling optimistic about the pace despite the setbacks!
